Deacon has been a member of ASM International since 1997 and served as ASM trustee, 2015-2018. Deacon earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees inmaterials science and engineering from Lehigh University. Prior to joining UTC, he was the corporate failure analyst for DuPont and also worked previously in the Technical Services and Research & Development departments at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Deacon was a founding editor and is the current editor-in-chief of the journal Metallography, Microstruc- ture, and Analysis, the official journal of the International Metallographic Society and has held a number of volun- teer positions within the society including the Emerg- ing Professionals Committee, Membership Committee, Material Advantage Committee, and served as chair of Chap- ter Council in 2013. Deacon has authored or co-authored a number of publications in the fields of corrosion and materials characterization and is a recipient of the Jacquet- Lucas Award for Excellence in Metallography and the ASM Silver Medal. ASM Officers Appoint Members In accordance with the ASM International Constitu- tion, ASM president Dr. David U. Furrer, FASM, vice pres- ident Dr. Zi-Kui Liu, FASM, and immediate past president Dr. Frederick E. Schmidt, FASM, appointed nine members to the Nominating Committee from among candidates pro- posed by chapters, committees, councils, and ASM Affiliate Society boards. The committee is responsible for selecting a nominee for vice president-trustee (one-year term) and for nominating three trustees (three-year terms). Mem- bers do not select a candidate for president of the Society, because Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution states that the office of president shall be filled for a period of one year by succession of the vice president. The 2019 Nominating Committee’s nominee for vice president will serve as ASM’s president in 2021. 2019 Nominating Committee Members Include: James Boileau, FASM, Ford Motor Co., Deaborn, Mich., (nominated by the Detroit Chapter); Lichun (Leigh) Chen, Superior Essex, Fort Wayne, Ind., (nominated by the Fort Wayne Chapter); Hanchen Huang, University of North Texas, Denton, (nominated by the Emerging Technologies Awareness Committee); John Kuli, Materion Corp., Elmore, Ohio, (nominated by the Technical Books Committee); Andre McDonald, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Can- ada, (nominated by the Thermal Spray Society); E. Andrew Payzant, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tenn., (nomi- nated by the Oak Ridge Chapter); Al Singmaster, A.L. Sing- master Personnel Services, King of Prussia, Pa., (nominated by the Philadelphia Chapter); Sridharan Veenkeepuram, Soudarshini Valve Private Ltd., Chennai, India, (nominated by the Chennai Chapter); and Ellen Wright, Engineering Systems Inc., Aurora, Ill., (nominated by the Emerging Pro- fessionals Committee).
