HIGHL IGHTS A D V A N C E D M A T E R I A L S & P R O C E S S E S | F E B R U A R Y / M A R C H 2 0 1 8 7 0  JACQUET-LUCAS AWARD Jacquet-Lucas Award for Excellence in Metallography The ASM Metallographic Award was established in 1946 for the best entry in the annual ASM metallographic competition. In 1958, it became known as the Francis F. Lucas Metallographic Award and has been endowed since that date by Adolph I. Buehler. In 1972, ASM joined with The International Metallographic Society (IMS) in sponsor- ing the Pierre Jacquet Gold Medal and the Francis F. Lucas Award for Excellence in Metallography. This award has been endowed by Buehler Ltd. since 1976. The 2017 recipients of the Jacquet-Lucas Award are Elvin Beach, Tom Luzanski, Dustin Marshall, and Brian Dix, for their entry entitled “A Classic Aluminum Etch Sup- porting Development of aNewAutomotive Joining Process.” Beach works as R&D manager at Worthington Industries Inc., Columbus, Ohio, and is associate editor for Metallog- raphy, Microstructure, and Analysis and the Journal of Mate- rials Engineering Performance. Luzanski is a metallurgical engineering consultant with Tailor Welded Blanks (TWB) Co. in Monroe, Mich. Marshall is the engineering lead on the friction stir weld (FSW) research and development project at TWB Co. Dix is also at TWB Co. as an FSW line supervisor. Attend our Virtual Career Fair! Beach Luzanski Marshall ATTENTION STUDENTS 2018 ASM International Student Paper Contest Deadline April 1 The ASM International Student Paper Contest is designed to increase interest and awareness in materials science and engineering, and provide recognition for out- standing student efforts in the field. The contest is open to all Material Advantage student members who are enrolled at a college or university offering courses in mate- rials science and engineering. The winner will receive a cash prize of $500, plus up to $500 toward travel expenses to attend MS&T18. In addition, a full set of ASM Handbooks (or an online Handbooks subscription) will be presented to the school or student chapter of the winning entry.
