James Oakes, VP business development, Super Systems Inc., was named president of HTS. Stephen G. Kowalski, president, Kowal- ski Heat Treating Co., is currently serving as HTS immediate past president and treasurer, as well as chair of the HTS Awards & Nominations and the HTS Finance Committees. Timothy De Hennis, metallurgist, Boeing, was named chair of the HTS Edu- cation Subcommittee. Michael A. Pershing, senior technical steward, Caterpillar Inc., continues as chair of the HTS Research & Development Committee. Andrew Banka, vice president, Airflow Sciences Corp., continues as chair of the HTS Technology & Programming Committee. JoAnne Bruning, Bodycote, continues as chair of the HTS Membership Subcommittee. Robert Madeira, vice president of HT, Inductotherm Group, and Benjamin Bernard, vice president, global sales, Surface Combustion Inc., were named chair and co-chair, respectively, of the HTS Exposition Subcommittee. If you are interested in serving on an HTS committee, contact the respective committee chair or email maryanne.jerson@asminternational.org. 3 SOLICITING PAPERS FOR ASM HTS/BODYCOTE BEST PAPER IN HEAT TREATING CONTEST The ASM HTS/Bodycote award was established by HTS in 1997 to recognize a paper that represents advancement in heat treating technology, promotes heat treating in a sub- stantial way, or represents a clear advancement in manag- ing the business of heat treating. The award is endowed by Bodycote Thermal Process-North America. The contest is open to all students, in full-time or part-time education, at universities (or their equivalent), or colleges. It is also open to students who have graduat- ed within the past three years and whose paper describes work completed while an undergraduate or post-gradu- ate student. The winner receives a plaque and check for $2500. To view rules for eligibility and paper submission, visit hts.asminternational.org , Membership & Network- ing, and Society Awards. H T EATING SOCIETY NEWS 4 HEAT TREATING SOCIETY SEEKS BOARD NOMINATIONS The HTS Awards and Nominations Committee is seeking nominations for three directors, a student board member, and an emerging professional board member. Candidates must be an HTS member in good standing. Nominations should be made on the formal nomination form and can be submitted by a chapter, council, commit- tee, HTS member, or an affiliate society. The HTS Awards and Nominations Committee may consider any HTS mem- ber, even those who have previously served on the HTS Board. Nominations for boardmembers are due March 1. Student board member applications are due April 1.
