Austin Chang, FASM, is now available as a published biogra- phy. Emigrating from China to the U.S. in 1950, Chang obtained a Ph.D. in met- allurgy and became a world-renowned expert in thermodynamics and metal alloys. Immortal Mentor: A Warm and Inspirational Biography of Y. Austin Chang by Alexandra Chiang is the English translation of the original Chinese version. Chang was a distinguished professor emeritus in materials science and engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and founded CompuTherm LLC. He received the J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award, the Albert Sauveur Achieve- ment Award, and the Edward DeMille Campbell Memorial Lecture Award from ASM. The book is available at www. asminternational.org/immortalmentor. Chong Installed as SME Officer Dianne Chong, FASM, was installed as secretary of SME during their annual banquet in November 2017. The officers’ terms began in Jan- uary. Chong, retired from The Boeing Co., Seattle, served as vice president in the research and technology orga- nization. Officers of SME are chosen by a nominating committee and selected by the SME Board of Directors. These directors are elected annually by the entire voting member- ship of the organization. Chong was ASM president during 2008-2009. Huang Named AAAS Fellow Hanchen Huang was awarded the distinction of Fellow of the Ameri- can Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He will be recog- nized during the Fellows Forum at the 2018 AAAS Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. Huang is the Donald W. Smith Professor and Department Chair of Mechanical and Industrial Engineer- ing at Northeastern University. He is a member of ASM’s Emerging Technologies Awareness Com- mittee and the ASM Hartford Chapter. Ravindran Honored by ASM Chang Chong Huang The ASM President’s Award was presented to C. Ravi Ravindran, FASM, (center) by ASM leaders Frederick Schmidt, FASM, and William Frazier, FASM, on October 9, 2017, in Pittsburgh during ASM’s Annual Meeting for “unwavering passion and assiduous devotion to ASM International, and impactful contributions to our Society.” Rudnev Teaches in Italy Valery Rudnev, FASM, (aka Professor Induction) conducted a number of educational seminars in Europe, including a two-day seminar on induction heat treatment organized by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group (FCA-Italy) at the Tech Center in Torino, Italy, in October 2017. Attendees included engineers, scientist, metallurgists, andmanagers from Italy and Poland. He also annually conducts seminars at the Tech Center in Auburn Hills, Mich., for FCA-USA.
