Haniak Scholarship was established in 2003 and is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate member of ASM at the junior or senior level who demon- strates exemplary academic and personal achievements, as well as interest and potential in metallurgy or materials sci- ence and engineering. One scholar will receive a certificate and check for $1500 toward educational expenses for one academic year. Adhitya Jayasinghe Lehigh University Jayasinghe is in the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors pro- gram at Lehigh University, studying materials science and engineering, as well as economics. Tapping into his academic background and his pas- sion for renewable energy, Jayasinghe plans to dedicate his life toward harmoniously joining the two disconnected worlds of renewable energy research with economic policy. His research interests reside largely in solar energy and increasing the efficiency and cost-effec- tiveness of photovoltaics. Bolenbaugh Named 2017 Kishor M. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher The Teacher Award Committee of the ASM Materials Education Founda- tion is proud to announce the selec- tion of Todd Bolenbaugh of the Tolles Career & Technical Center, Ohio, as recipient of the 2017 Kishor M. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher Award. The award, $2000 plus $500 to- ward travel to MS&T, was established in 2007 through a generous donation by Dr. Kishor M. Kulkarni, past trustee of ASM International, and his family to recognize the accom- plishments of one U.S. high school science teacher who demonstrates a significant and sustained impact on pre- college age students. The award will be presented on October 9 at the ASM Leadership Awards Luncheon at MS&T17 in Pittsburgh. Bolenbaugh is known for his energy, passion, and curi- osity about science and the world around him. These traits help to excite those in his classroom to get involved in learn- ing and even take on additional assignments. His students reportedly refer to him as “teacher extraordinaire.” “In a recent teacher camp, Todd added something new, an extra evening session especially for those attendees hop- ing to place a full semester or full year class into their high school. Todd extended his day to help the new potential teachers, explaining past experiences and special resources available from other leading master teachers.” Thomas Glasgow, FASM, retired, NASA Glenn Research Center 2017 Undergraduate Design Competition Winners Announced The ASM Materials Education Foundation and Design Competition Committee are pleased to announce the win- ners of the 2017 Undergraduate Design Competition.
