edfas.org ELECTRONIC DEVICE FAILURE ANALYSIS | VOLUME 21 NO. 1 44 BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEWS EDFAS BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT Ryan Ross, EDFAS Secretary, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory ryan.ross@jpl.nasa.gov T he EDFAS Board of Directors held its annual face- to-face meeting on Saturday, October 27, 2018, in Phoenix, preceding ISTFA 2018. The meeting opened with a warm welcome for two new Board mem- bers, Renee Parente and Tom Schamp. Board President Lee Knauss then provided the President’s report. Lee dis- cussed three main 2019 strategies focused on improving people engagement, knowledge engagement, and indus- try engagement. Elements discussed include creation of discussion groups, enabling fully indexed and searchable content online, addition of educational offerings, FA road- maps, and institutional memberships. ASM chief sales andmarketing officer RyanMilosh dis- cussed progress on year two of ASM three-year Renewal, which has a focus on revitalizing membership, lowering cost, scaling up education, and implementing strategic collaboration and partnerships to achieve the society’s digital transformation. He also announced that EDFAS membership has increased by 100 people. Ron Aderhold, chief operating officer, provided an update on the digital transformation, which included the successful implementation of ASM Connect, migration of ASM’s data center to the cloud, and reengineering and publishing of content. The ASM Handbook series is the first content type to be released in ASM’s new Silverchair digital library system. The articles are now discoverable, searchable, accessible, and interoperable via the internet. Keywords and abstracts have been added to each article as well. Updates were provided by committee chairs along with open discussion on objectives for 2019. Martin Keim and Ryan Milosh highlighted that the majority of our membership is in the >50-years-old category, which is a call to action for each of us to introduce early career failure analysis colleagues to EDFAS and ISTFA, and encourage participation. Tejinder Gandhi provided an update on the Microelectronics Failure Analysis Desk Reference, which is in creation with over 75% of the articles being new or revised. Ryan Ross reported the FA Technology Roadmap Committee continues work on creation of a GAP analysis, and will be working closely with the ISTFA session chairs in 2019, with support from Keith Serrels. Looking forward to next year’s conference, General Chair Felix Beaudoin provided a preview of ISTFA 2019 in Portland, Ore., which will be themed “Novel Computing Architectures.” Susan Li was announced as Technical Program Chair for ISTFA 2019. Felix Beaudoin, editor of EDFA, reported that the magazine continues to have excellent technical content and is very well received by the community and advertis- ers.
