Collins, FASM, professor, Case Western Reserve Uni- versity, Cleveland. Her citation reads: “For her leadership of ASM Internation- al, at the chapter and national levels, supporting the Society in its goals and objectives with over three decades of committed volunteer service.” Estab- lished in 1988, the award recognizes the exemplary efforts of various out- standing members of ASM International on behalf of the Society to further its objectives and goals. The purpose of this award is to recognize those individuals whose contri- butions have been especially noteworthy and to whom the Society owes a particularly great debt of appreciation. Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award Dr. Diran Apelian, FASM, dis- tinguished professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Irvine. His citation reads: “For his legacy of excel- lence in teaching and innovation and being a visionary role model and inspi- rational mentor to two generations of students –nowleaders inacademiaand industry.” The award was established in 1960 in memory of an outstanding teacher and research engineer, who was a founding member and president of ASM in 1921. It recognizes unusually long and devoted ser- vice in teaching, as well as significant accomplishments in materials science and engineering, and an unusual ability to inspire and impart enthusiasm to students. Silver Medal Award Dr. Lesley D. Frame, assistant professor, University of Connecticut, Storrs. Her citation reads: “For note- worthy research and collaborations that merge experiment and charac- terization of materials, materials be- havior modeling, and data analytics; along with her unwavering support of diversity, equity, and inclusion within ASM International.” Dr. Olga K. Rowan, engineer specialist, Caterpillar Inc., Dunlap, Ill. Her citation reads: “For contributions in the field of carburizing and heat treating.” Established in 2010, the honor of Silver Medal of the Society is to provide recognition to members who are in mid-career positions (typ- ically 5 to 15 years of experience), for distinguished contributions in the field of materials science and engi- neering, and the society. The purpose of this award is to recognize leadership at an early stage and encourage in- dividuals to grow, nurture, and further contribute to the growth of the profession, as well as the society. SOLICITING PAPERS FOR ASM HTS/BODYCOTE BEST PAPER IN HEAT TREATING CONTEST The ASM HTS/Bodycote award was established by HTS in 1997 to recognize a paper that represents advance- ment in heat treating technology, promotes heat treating in a substantial way, or represents a clear advancement in managing the business of heat treating. The award is en- dowed by Bodycote Thermal Process-North America. The contest is open to all students, in full-time or part- time education, at universities (or their equivalent) or col- leges. It is also open to those students who have graduat- ed within the past three years and whose paper describes work completed while an undergraduate or post-graduate student.
