FROM THE FOUNDATION A Summer of Inspiration, Impact, and Gratitude As another incredible ASM Materials Camp summer ends, I am filled with gratitude for the work that I am privileged to do and the amazing people with whom I work. Every camp, every classroom activity, and every student inspired to explore materials science begins with individuals who believe in the power of education to change lives. This summer was one of our most impactful yet. Our ASM Materials Camps for Teachers reached 875 impressive educators, each returning to their classrooms with engaging, hands-on materials science lessons that will inspire students for years to come. No one spends a week of their precious summer break with us unless they truly want to improve their teaching methods. Because every teacher reaches hundreds of students throughout their career, the impact of this summer’s work will extend far beyond the camp experience, influencing countless future innovators. Educators from across the country dedicated their time and energy to learning new ways to bring materials science to life in their classrooms. Watching teachers collaborate, experiment, and rediscover the excitement of hands-on STEM learning reminds us why this work matters. Their enthusiasm will undoubtedly be passed on to the students they teach. The master teachers that lead our teacher programming are flexible, dedicated, and truly an amazing support network for educators across the country. They have such enthusiasm and love for sharing with the participants, as well as passion for this program. Eisenman Materials Camp, the ASM Materials Education Foundation’s flagship student experience, brought 34 outstanding high school students from across the country to spend an unforgettable week at ASM International Headquarters, immersing them in the exciting world of materials science and engineering. Eisenman Camp mentors are a special breed, giving a week of their time and working long days to teach the students about materials science and failure analysis. I am truly grateful to work with them. To our Materials Camp volunteers, board members, instructors, host chapters, university and industry partners, donors, and sponsors: Thank you. Your generosity, expertise, and commitment make these life-changing experiences possible. Whether you shared your knowledge in a classroom, hosted a camp, mentored participants, or provided financial support, you played an essential role in this summer’s success. As we celebrate this remarkable chapter, we also look ahead. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher Award The ASM Materials Education Foundation and the Teacher Award Committee proudly announce the selection of Jeff Webb of Sidney High School in Ohio as recipient of the 2026 Kishor M. Kulkarni Distinguished High School Teacher Award. Established in 2007, the award recognizes the accomplishments of one high school science teacher who has demonstrated a significant and sustained impact on pre-college age students. The award includes $2000 plus $500 travel costs to IMAT through the generous donation of Dr. Kishor M. Kulkarni. Webb has a unique and varied background that provides his students with practical knowledge and understanding of materials science, especially in industry. His ability to convey the real-world applications of materials science to students in his classroom provides his students with an interesting opportunity. By not only enthusiastically presenting the content, but also illustrating the practical connections, Webb’s students gain a unique understanding of the world of materials science. The award will be presented on Monday, September 28, at the ASM Leadership Awards Luncheon at IMAT 2026 in Quebec City. Wilson Webb
