HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED MATERIALS & PROCESSES | JULY 2026 48 ASM-IIM North America Visiting Lectureship Dr. Dheepa Srinivasan, associate fellow, materials science, Baker Hughes, Bangalore, India, will be one of this year’s lecturers. Dr. Mayur Vaidya, associate professor, department of materials science and metallurgical engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India, will be one of this year’s lecturers. Each year, many members of the Indian Institute of Materials (IIM) make brief visits to the United States and Canada. Following the success of the ASM-IIM Visiting Lectureship Program (established in 1979), ASM approached IIM to further promote international cooperation between professional societies, and to provide useful service to the materials community. As a result, ASM and IIM jointly established and funded a new ASM-IIM program, effective in 2013, with a view to providing honoraria for qualified IIM members for travel to the United States and Canada. 2026 Alpha Sigma Mu Lecturer Announced Wednesday, September 30 | 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. At IMAT in Quebec City Dr. Ji-Cheng (JC) Zhao, FASM, Dean of College of Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs “Innovations in Materials R&D via Experimentation-Computation Integration and Interdisciplinary Collaborations” This lecture will showcase selected examples of innovations in materials R&D through integration of innovative experimental techniques with computational results for accelerated research and insertion of new materials. On the experimental side, examples include earlier high-throughput experimental measurements of phase diagrams and materials properties to recent developments in ultrafast syntheses and autonomous experiments. On the computation side, examples include computational thermodynamic predictions, density functional theory calculations, and holistic approaches to integrate both experimental and computational data. These examples The following ASM Organizational Unit Awards will be presented at the ASM Leadership Luncheon at IMAT 2026 in Quebec City: ASM Student Paper Contest Raja Ankit Anand, project research scientist, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India, will receive this year’s award for his paper entitled, “Investigation of Phase Evolution During Induration of Hematite Pellets with Varying Coke Content,” published in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, February 2026. The contest was established in 1985 as a mechanism for student participation in Society affairs. The award recognizes the best technical paper with a graduate or undergraduate student as first author that is published in an ASM-sponsored publication during the year. ASM International Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award Ms. Amy Kurr, materials engineer, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will receive this year’s award. The Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award was established in 2025 to recognize graduate students who have shown outstanding scholarly performance in the field of metallurgy/materials science and engineering and related careers. Emerging Professionals Achievement Award Ms. Amrutha Sampath, senior electrical failure analysis engineer, Product Diagnostic Center, NXP Semiconductors, Austin, Texas, will receive this year’s award “for advancing the failure analysis community through influential WEFA leadership, EDFAS SYP engagement, student outreach, EDFAS volunteer service, and significant contributions to ISTFA as a reviewer, organizer, educator, and ambassador for emerging professionals.” Established in 2010, the award recognizes and honors extraordinary ASM volunteers who are less senior individuals, i.e., 0-5 years of experience post- graduation, who have made a significant impact on ASM International through devoted service and dedication to the future of the Society. 2026 AWARD PROGRAM HONOREES Anand Kurr Sampath Srinivasan Vaidya Zhao
